The launching ceremony of the Italian FREMM “Luigi RIZZO” was held on December 19th, 2015, at the Fincantieri shipyard in Riva Trigoso (near Genoa).
The Vessel is the sixth Unit of the FREMM Programme which for Italy includes the construction of up to 10 Frigates for the Italian Navy, with OSN playing the role of Prime Contractor.
The Unit, which has been launched perfectly in line with the contractual schedule, will be delivered at the beginning of 2017.
The Ship is 144 m long, has a breadth of 19,7 m with a displacement at full load of approximately 6,700 tons; FREMM Units have been designed for achieving a maximum speed of over 27 knots and for providing accommodation for up to 200 people (crew and additional personnel), granting a high degree of flexibility and the capability to operate in a wide range of scenarios, especially in the frame of security in the Mediterranean area.
