The FREMM Frigate “Carabiniere” was delivered to the Italian Navy on April 28th 2015 at Fincantieri’s Muggiano Shipyard, near La Spezia.
Fourth Unit of the series, “Carabiniere” was delivered few weeks after the notice, given by the OCCAR-EA FREMM Programme Division, of the option exercise for the construction of the ninth and tenth vessel, completing the supply of 10 Units to be delivered to the Italian Navy.
This ultimate success is the result of the already proven synergy amongst OCCAR, Italian Navy and national Industries, in an integrated effort aiming to provide the Italian Navy with Units being able to accomplish a wide range of missions: an example of a coordinated system producing benefit to the whole Nation.
The formal delivery of the fourth FREMM represents the final act of a comprehensive job coordinated by OSN, the Fincantieri and Finmeccanica joint venture, with the fundamental cooperation of shipyard’s workers, ship platform and combat system design authorities, OCCAR Programme Division, suppliers (such as OTO MELARA, WASS, MBDA, SIGEN, Thales Under-water Systems etc.) and the Customer.
The Frigate “Carabiniere” is characterised by a high degree of flexibility and by the capability to operate in a wide range of scenarios and in all tactical situations. The ship is 144 metres long, with a beam of 19,7 metres and a full load displacement of approximately 6,700 tons. It has been designed for achieving a maximum speed of over 27 knots and provides accommodation up to 200 people (crew and additional personnel included).
